【micro ledforum】多家厂商分享micro led巨量转移技术

The 2018 Micro LEDforum, sponsored by the LED Research Center (LEDinside), ended in July 12th. This is mainly aimed at the six bottlenecks in the Micro LED process, inviting experts from various fields to share. Among them, in the huge transfer part, this time we specially invited Uniqarta, SelfArray, eLux, QMAT, KIMM and other manufacturers to talk about the characteristics of different transfer technologies and the future technology potential.

In the speech, LEDinside research coordinator mentioned in the speech that due to the different technical characteristics of all kinds of huge transfer technologies, the monitors with different sizes may have different transfer schemes. Therefore, exploring the feasibility of various huge transfer technologies will bring more technological breakthrough opportunities for the whole industry.

Uniqarta, a new US company, mentioned in the meeting that compared with the traditional pick and place transfer technology, the speed and efficiency of Uniqarta's massive transfer plan will be greatly improved. The current pick and place can only transfer 10 thousand to 25 thousand hours per hour, making a display takes about 2 to 15 weeks. But the laser transfer technology developed by Uniqarta can be transferred through single laser beam or multiple laser beam. Uniqarta CEO Ronn Kliger presents a transfer speed through the film in the presentation process, a 130x160 micron sized LED. It can transfer about 14 million pieces per hour.

Another representative manufacturer of laser transfer is QMAT. QMAT transfer technology is to use BAR (Beam-Addressed Release) to transfer Micro LED from the original substrate to the target substrate quickly and in large scale using the laser beam. In particular, in order to ensure the zero ppm defects and high production targets of the massive transfer process, QMAT also proposed a PL/EL detection scheme, which first detects and confirms before transferring, and ensures that the transferred Micro LED is good. This way will reduce the subsequent maintenance time and processing cost.

In addition to the laser transfer scheme, SelfArray, another new US company, has also demonstrated its directional transfer in the way of directional self-assembly. The first method is to coat the LED surface with a layer of pyrolytic graphite film and place it on the vibrating magnetic platform. Under the guidance of the magnetic field, LED will be quickly arranged to locate. SelfArray executive director Clinton Ballinger also demonstrated the technology in 350x350 through the film, using 350x350 micron sized flip chip technology LED, and said that the company is designing LED with a volume less than 150 microns, which will be tested in the future. If the technology is mature, it will take only a few minutes to produce a 4K TV in the future.

Roller transcoding technology is a patented technology created by KIMM. Using roller to roll mode, the TFT components and LED components are "transferred" to the substrate, and finally form a scalable active matrix Micro LED (AMLED) panel. Through the roller transfer technology, the huge transfer efficiency is about 10 thousand times faster than that of the traditional machining process.

In this seminar, eLux chief technology officer Paul Schuele was also invited. ELux mainly focuses on fluid assembly and positioning technology in massive transfer. ELux patent proposes that the fluid assembly method is to use the interface of fused solder capillary, so that during the assembly period, the fluid suspension liquid can be used for mechanical and electrical connection between the electrodes and the electrodes. The Micro LED can be quickly captured and aligned to the solder joint. It is a low cost and high speed assembly method.

ELux chief technology officer Paul Schuele

Hon Hai passed through its subsidiary CyberNet last year to become eLux's largest shareholder. Now eLux has made a breakthrough in Micro LED technology, and will also contribute to Hon Hai's layout Micro LED in the future. ELux also told LEDinside that in the future, it will cooperate with Hon Chuang Chong's backlight in terms of technology, and will cooperate with another Hong Haizi company. ELux also revealed that the next stage will develop towards RGB displays, which will take at least three years to enter large display screens.

Huang Bingkai, manager of micro light emitting diode business unit

Finally, gathering technology is the only IC manufacturer driven by the seminar. Huang Bingkai, manager of the micro light emitting diode division, uses TOP DOWN mode to bring out the advantages of micro/mini-LED in LED display with HDR10 specifications. Although compared with the traditional SMD LED, micro/mini-LED has the advantages of wide viewing angle, high luminous efficiency and high pixel density. To enable micro/mini-LED to play one hundred percent, IC still needs to be assisted. For example, true 16-bit PWM can raise the contrast to 25000:1 level. The high integration driver IC integrates more channels and other peripheral IC can match the point spacing between smaller and higher pixel density. In view of the detection of bad points in the production of micro/mini-LED display, AOI can detect only whether there are any omissions in LED, whether there are successful aligning positions, whether the grains are damaged, but whether pad is properly jointed is not easy to judge. The LED error detection function provided by accumulating technology SHARE-I/O can make up for the lack of AOI. However, the exclusive error prediction function can predict the LED grain that is about to expire before the burn-in shipment in the factory, assist in the early maintenance and reduce the subsequent maintenance cost.

LEDinside 2018 Micro LED next generation display technology market report - 3Q18 Micro LED transfer, driver, backplane and application requirements

LEDinside's latest report, "2018 Micro LED next generation display technology market report - 3Q18 Micro LED transfer, drive, backplane and application requirements" discusses the corresponding relationship between various display specifications and huge transfer, drive and backplane technology. Because the product characteristics and specifications of display are not the same, no matter big transfer, trend, backplane need to correspond to the application characteristics of different display products. Therefore, for different display products, different technology vendors may be able to dominate the future development direction.
