50 lumens per watt OLED energy efficiency to obtain new breakthroughs

Use the blue light of OLED Department of materials science and technology University of Florida U.S. researchers before creating an organic light emitting diode (OLED) of the energy efficiency of the new record. Because blue is an important part of the white light, the breakthrough is expected to solve a major obstacle to the development of road lighting on the OLED, so this energy efficiency is much higher than that of the fluorescent lamp, the early realization of popularization and the quality of lighting is similar to the incandescent lamp of a new generation of light source.

The research project was funded by the U.S. Department of energy, assistant professor of materials science and technology at University of Florida Franky So led, the project also includes the Department of Professor Paul Holloway and another Chinese Assistant Professor Jiangeng Xue. The paper describing the breakthrough has recently been published in the Journal of Applied Physics communications.

They use blue OLED to achieve the highest energy efficiency of 50 lumens per watt, and the ultimate goal of the project is to reach the lumen of 100 lumens per watt, so that it is closer to the needs of lighting applications. The researchers also said that this kind of OLED light source can be easily deployed, with a variety of different colors of officials with a variety of color light-emitting effect.
