6000 street lamps in the Spanish archipelago are required to install special light plates. Why?

In Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, about 6000 new street lamps will be equipped with special light boards that filter blue light and guide the light to the ground to avoid disturbing the nearby observatory.

Benefiting from the extremely clear sky, these islands have many internationally known observatories, which are particularly protected by Spanish law.

This makes it necessary for the city government to take measures to reduce light pollution, such as the prohibition of the use of high pressure mercury lamps or white light lamps. Of course, there are some special cases, such as lighting for sports and advertising.

At the same time, the project will install 100 "sensor" streetlights, which can accommodate existing and future sensors (such as noise, pollution, traffic monitoring, etc.), and can be paired with the software application of Signify. These accessories are fitted with two systems of sockets, one on the top, the other at the bottom of each lamp, and compatible with the Zhaga standard.

It is reported that the street lamp project will be responsible for ImesAPI. ImesAPI will use Signify's Interact City street lighting management system to monitor, control and manage 3000 Luma and 1500 ClassicStreet lamps and lanterns. Some 1500 sodium street lamps in the existing facilities will be added to Interact City with a connector suite.

Lope Afonso, mayor of La Cruz port, said, "for the astronomers and those who like the starlight night, our sky quality is the first one."

"We want to protect these valuable resources and make our streets safer for citizens and tourists."

"This latest technology meets the needs of the local observatory, and will help us reduce our electricity for public lighting by about 65%, and provide a choice for our future smart city services. (Editor: LED network James)
