A new integrated boost converter for LED backlight drive

The Fairchild company (Fairchild Semiconductor) launched the new high frequency integrated boost converter FAN5336, allows the designer to obtain 87% EMI low system efficiency, and saves space on the circuit board, widely applicable to small LCD bias and white LED backlight lighting design. The 1.5MHz switching frequency boost converter has a wide output voltage range (9-33V), and the switch NFET is integrated in a thin molded leadless package (UMLP) with a size of only 3 x 3 x 0.6mm.

The volume ratio of FAN5336 SOT package less commonly used, it can provide more features, including higher peak currents (1.5A), higher than similar devices 1.0A; excellent input and load regulation (0.2%); and the high switching frequency (1.5MHz). Therefore, FAN5336 helps to minimize noise, heat generation and heat dissipation in mobile phones and smart phones, MP3 players, medical devices, and many other portable applications. In addition, the converter has a high frequency and can be used with smaller components to assist designers in making best use of board space while reducing the complexity of the design.

The Fairchild portable product line director Bruno Kranzen said: "the Fairchild FAN5336 is beneficial to today's small LCD bias and white LED backlight lighting power supply application, input voltage range 2.7V to 5.5V. In these designs, the FAN5336 can provide at least 100mA of load current to the 9V to 21V output rails, or up to 50mA of current into the 33V output rails, efficiency up to 87%. Other products include FAN5331 and 30V of the output voltage of 20V and FAN5332, respectively. "

In addition to the advantages of efficiency, FAN5336 also provides system reliability and other characteristics, including cycle by cycle current limit, 1.5A peak current support and soft start function.

FAN5336 uses 6 terminal UMLP and MLP package, these lead free products can meet or even exceed the IPC/JEDEC standard requirements of J-STD-020C, and is now in force with the EU standards. At present, the products are available from stock, delivery time is 6 to 8 weeks.
