Apple's acquisition of Israel's face recognition company to prepare for iPhone 8?

According to the Israeli business news website Calcalist reported that Apple has acquired the Israeli start-up company RealFace, as long as the face can face recognition through the completion of user authorization, without having to enter a password or fingerprint.

The deal is estimated to be worth millions of dollars.

Apple has yet to comment. But Israel technology company database Startup Nation Central said that apple did buy RealFace this month. RealFace site was offline on Sunday morning, contact information can not be obtained.

Headquartered in Tel Aviv, RealFace launched its first product, called Pickeez, in 2014, using its RealFace software to select the best photos from multiple platforms.

Apple's iOS 10 has applied facial recognition software to photos, but recently it has been rumoured that the company also wants to use face recognition as a tool for authentication.

There are a number of sites reported that rumors of iPhone 8 may be built-in iris scanning function, the user can only stare at the scanner to unlock the phone. Another report said that the next generation of iPhone will contain similar to RealFace technology to replace or supplement the existing Touch ID fingerprint scanner authentication system.

According to Startup Nation Central data, before being acquired by apple, RealFace cumulative financing $1 million, a total of 10 employees. The company's customers come from China, Israel, Europe and the United states.

Calcalist said it would be Apple's fourth acquisition in israel. The company had previously acquired the flash manufacturer Anobit in 2011, the acquisition of 3D sensor company PrimeSense in 2013, acquired camera technology company LinX in 2015.
