Apple Micro LED new patent exposure to enhance the stability of micro device array

Apple (Apple) two years ago, after the acquisition of MicroLED display technology company LuxVue Technology, stepping up the layout of micro light emitting diode (Micro LED) related technology patents, every move even more eye-catching. Earlier LuxVue and a new patented technology exposure, the content and the stability of micro array structure related to the technology.

LuxVue in November 3, 2015 to apply for the stability of the micro device technology patents, but also in the same year in April 8th to apply for another patent of the same name. According to the U.S. patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) data show that the patent technology with a special stable layer (stabilization layer), solid bearing micro device array substrate, such as a miniature LED device, micro chip, and to ensure that remained stable during the transfer process.

The special stability layer is made of thermosetting plastics (thermoset), such as epoxy resin (Epoxy), benzo (Benzocyclobutene, BCB). Through patent data shows, the stable layer structure containing hole shape and cylinder array; array column spacing of about 1 to 100 microns, each column is located in the central stable point, surrounded by a wall of protection, and above the column for the micro device.

This patent does not further explain the future application oriented, but also shows that LuxVue is still constantly refining the structure of Micro LED and transfer technology, in order to more accurate and stable. Micro LED in addition to the low energy consumption, high brightness, high resolution and other advantages, can the integration of sensors is also a major feature, so the future will be more broad application pattern, is not limited to the recently rumors of a new generation of Apple Watch, Micro does not mean that LED will directly replace the OLED, after all, there are still a lot of there is now talk about variables, the next generation of Apple Watch by Micro LED and perhaps too early.

Micro LED technology is not yet mature, there are many technical bottlenecks to be overcome, of course, the cost is another consideration, let alone but also with driving all aspects of IC, detection, terminal application development, a short time to achieve commercial production is not easy, the fastest may be three to five years is expected to achieve.
