Au optoelectronic will ship the Mini LED game display panel at Q4

According to Cai Guoxin (Michael Tsai), President of AU Optronics (AUO), the company has begun to provide customers with a mini LED backlight LCD panel for game displays for customers to verify that the commercial shipments of such panels may begin in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Cai Guoxin pointed out that friends wanted his mini LED panel to be used to make game laptops, smartphones, and VR headphones.

During the SID Display Week 2018, held in Losangeles, USA in from May 22nd to 24th, a series of mini LED backlight LCD panels were displayed, showing its progress in the development of mini LED backlighting technology.

The exhibits include a 27 inch ultra high definition (UHD) 144Hz high refresh game display panel, a 15.6 inch ultra high definition LTPS game notebook panel, a 6 inch in-cell touch panel for smart phones, and a 2 inch LTPS panel for VR headphones.

Cai Guoxin said that despite the exhibition of 4 Mini LED panels at the exhibition, it does not mean that a corresponding product will be introduced. In other words, it does not exclude the possibility of introducing new mini LED related products according to customer needs.

When talking about the price of the LCD TV panel, Peng Shuanglang (Paul Peng), the chairman of the optoelectronics, said that the downside pressure of the TV panel is expected to slow in the second half of 2018, because the TV market will enter the peak season and the adjustment of customer inventory is near to the end.

Some types of TV panels will eventually balance in the second half of this year, because panel prices are unlikely to be lower than cost for a long time, says Peng.
