BOE (Beijing Orient) developed a 5 inch AMQLED display product

Recently, BOE has developed a 5 inch active electric quantum dot luminescence display product (AMQLED), which is the result of the project "Research on key materials and devices of quantum dots luminescence display" by the national key research and development program, Ministry of science and technology, hosted by BOE. It is different from the LCD backlight using quantum dots to expand the color gamut. The product uses ink-jet printing technology to prepare the electronic quantum dot luminescence device (QLED) for full color display, and the color gamut is over 100%.

A quantum dot is a tiny semiconductor crystal with only a few atoms. The quantum dot material that absorbs energy can be stimulated to glow, and the light of different colors can be emitted by controlling the size of the quantum dots. Based on this characteristic, quantum dot technology is mainly used in quantum dot backlight technology and active quantum dot light emitting diode (AMQLED).

The liquid crystal product itself can not light up, need LED and so on as the backlight to realize the display, the early market on the quantum dot television, is the use of quantum dot backlight technology LCD TV. Quantum dot backlight technology uses quantum dots to replace the phosphor luminescent layer in the traditional LED backlight, and makes the LED backlight with a quantum film. Its display color can be increased by more than 30% compared with the traditional LED backlight TV.

Compared with the quantum dot backlight technology, the active electric quantum dot luminescence display (AMQLED) does not need the back light source, and the injection current can make the quantum dots light. The structure of the device is similar to the active organic light emitting diode (AMOLED). Compared with the two, AMQLED makes the luminescent source from the organic light source, although the light source is different. The material is changed into inorganic quantum dots, but compared to AMOLED, AMQLED is generally considered to have the potential advantages of long life, wide color gamut and low cost. It is widely considered to be a more subversive display technology after AMOLED, especially in the field of large size active luminescence display.

At present, the development of quantum dot technology is still in its infancy. According to the analysis of the industry, quantum dots will not only bring about the subversive improvement of the display technology, but also have wide application prospects in the fields of biological science and solar cells. It is one of the key technologies to change the future of human beings.
