British and Liverpool repulsion for LED street lights, Cree

The Liverpool municipal government of Liverpool, UK, has decided to replace the existing orange sodium light street lamps with the brighter LED energy saving lamps in the next 2 years, foreign media reported. Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson says LED lights can improve lighting, make the streets safer, and reduce the annual carbon dioxide emissions by 1400 tons; once the LED lamp is fully converted, the cost of maintenance will be reduced by 2 million 700 thousand pounds in 5 years.

Liverpool will start the first phase of the replacement operation in June and the 12000 local street lamps will be loaded with new LED lights. Liverpool has a total of 57000 street lamps, with a total energy cost of 2 million 600 thousand pounds a year.
