CREE launches higher efficiency version 90 CRI COB device combination

CREE (Nasdaq: CREE) recently announced the launch of XLamp eTone series LED. This breakthrough COB LED device combination can provide 90 CRI high gloss quality, and its luminous efficiency lm/W is up to the current standard version 80 CRI LED level. The new CREE eTone COB can provide 155 lm/W luminous efficiency at the relevant color temperature CCT 3000K and 85 degree C temperature.

Compared with the COB products with the same size and the same color temperature on the market, CREE eTone COB can provide a higher level of luminous efficiency. The enhanced performance of CREE eTone COB will help retail lighting, museum lighting, high-end business and medical lighting need high light quality applications, greatly enhance light output and light efficiency, and significantly reduce the size and volume of LED lamps and lanterns.

Reggiani Lighting R & D director Massimo Parravicini said: "CREE's latest innovation will help us redefine the high-order lighting market and develop designs that were hard to achieve before. CREE COB helps us only need one product design, and we can develop 80 CRI and 90 CRI lamps at the same time, and maintain the same light intensity, beam angle and power consumption. The CREE COB solution has multiple advantages. It not only brings us higher performance and superior optical quality, but also its size is matched with our existing design and can be readily available without modifying the design.

For many indoor lighting applications, the common requirement for light quality is that CRI should achieve more than 80. The lower CRI value can not reflect the reduction color very well, and usually gives the human visual experience less pleasant. And the CRI value reaches 90 higher, which will often mean higher color fidelity and better light quality. LED devices with a CRI value of 90 are mainly used in applications such as retail lighting and museum lighting. Although the 90 CRI version of LED has been published for many years, the realization of this optical quality has been built on the cost of sacrificing light output and optical efficiency. CREE eTone series COB overcomes this problem and can bring 17% light efficiency improvement on the basis of maintaining the quality of the existing 90 CRI LED light.

Dave Emerson, CREE executive vice president and general manager of LED division, said: "two years ago, CREE successfully implemented a single high-power LED device at 85 degree C temperature in the laboratory. The luminous efficiency reached 134 lm/W, lumen output reached 1587 LM, and the color index CRI reached 90. CREE has been committed to transforming industry-leading R & D results into commercialized mass production products and providing ready to use LED solutions for customers. Today, CREE announces the launch of eTone series LED, which can provide 90 CRI light quality, and the luminous efficiency reaches the level of 80 CRI version. This will mean that the lighting manufacturers will not have to continue to suffer from the loss of light efficiency in achieving the excellent quality of light in indoor lighting applications.

CREE eTone series LED currently includes ceramic substrate XLamp CXA2 standard density and metal substrate XLamp CMA & CMT high current COB LED family, and uses the same mechanical and electrical characteristics as standard version products, so as to help lighting designers quickly upgrade existing designs and minimize redesign as far as possible. At the same time, the LM-80 data of CREE eTone series LED can be obtained instantly, reducing the time required for lighting manufacturers to apply for DLC certification.

CREE eTone series LED offers a minimum of 90 CRI, and the related color temperature is CCT 4000K - 2700K optional. CREE eTone series LED is now available for sample application and can be produced according to the standard delivery time.
