CREE signed a patent cross licensing agreement with Ledvance

CREE (Nasdaq: CREE) issued a news release yesterday said the company and LEDvance signed a cross licensing agreement, under the agreement, Cree will continue to receive royalty payments to Ledvance, and obtain the Ledvance patent portfolio license royalty free. In exchange, Ledvance will also receive Cree's license on the patent portfolio of LED bulbs and LED lamps. License patents cover all aspects of LED lighting, including optical, thermal management, LED power and control, LED light efficiency, and color and uniformity. However, certain Cree patents that cover Cree network lighting technology (SmartCast) and color mixing technology (TrueWhite) are not included in this license.

Cree law and general counsel and vice president Brad Kohn said: with the development of intellectual property in the past 29 years, Cree has deep technology portfolio, these technologies are the basis for the design and manufacture of high performance LED lighting and LED lighting.
