Development of red phosphor for white light LED by cooperation between Fujian and Taiwan

Reporters from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Fujian has been informed that the Chen Xueyuan team and the National Taiwan University Liu Ruxi research team, for the first time by using ion exchange method, successfully prepared a new efficient red phosphor for warm white LED.

It is reported that the white light LED because of its energy saving, environmental protection and long life characteristics, as the next generation of lighting devices. At present, commercial white LED mainly uses the blue chip excited YAG:Ce3+ yellow fluorescent powder, but the emission spectrum of the device in the red component, it is difficult to obtain a low color temperature and high color warm white color index device, limit its application in indoor lighting in general. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to add appropriate red phosphor to the device to supplement the red light component, while the high performance and low cost red phosphor is still lacking.

The red phosphor prepared by the research team is suitable for the excitation of blue chip, and the luminous efficiency is 98% at room temperature, which is better than most of the existing red phosphors, and has good fluorescence thermostability. At the same time, the ion exchange preparation process is simple and can be prepared at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The raw material is cheap and therefore has a good market prospect. It is understood that the study has been published online in the international famous "natural communication" magazine, and applied for 2 Chinese invention patents.
