EU environmental directives will affect the export of national testing standards

The General Administration of quality supervision, inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and the state certification and Accreditation Administration jointly issued a series of standards for the detection of harmful substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

These test methods standards, implemented in January 18th next year, designed to help Chinese companies successfully crossed the EU's previously issued new environmental directives set export threshold.

In January 27, 2003, the EU adopted the "on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive" (ROHS directive) and "on the waste electrical and electronic equipment" (WEEE directive), requirements of electrical and electronic equipment recycling producers on the one hand assume responsibility; on the other hand, in the electronic and electrical equipment shall not contain 6 kinds of harmful substances, including lead, mercury, cadmium, six chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ether two etc.. It is reported that, WEEE directive from August 13, 2005 formally implemented, ROHS directive from July 1, 2006 implementation.

The implementation of these two directives will have a significant impact on China's exports of mechanical and electrical products to the eu. The official estimates show that in 2004, China of EU exports of electromechanical products more than 68 billion 400 million U.S. dollars, remove the spare parts and other upstream products, the implementation of two directives will directly affect China's export of electromechanical products 46 billion 780 million U.S. dollars. According to the growth rate of trade this year, the direct impact on the export of mechanical and electrical products will reach $56 billion.

The inspection division of the national quality inspection administration director Wang Xin reminder, all electrical and electronic products export enterprises should act as soon as possible, to control the upstream raw material supply enterprises to ensure compliance; and control of the production environment, prevent pollution two; finally, the positive application of testing standards, sampling inspection of export products, issued by the self declaration of conformity sure, exports to the EU continue smoothly.
