Farewell patrol check lamp, Australia mine lighting easy fix

One of Australia's largest mines are using networking lighting platform to track and manage the portable lighting tower.

Western Australia wide Roy Hill iron ore mine previously used diesel engine driven generator lighting equipment, to provide lighting for the miners, but due to the large size (only rail line, 344 km long), positioning has become a major issue.

The mine technical director Rebecca Kerr said, "before, at the end of a shift period, you will be the number of lighting tower not bright surprise."

"Once they found the lighting tower lamp does not light, usually without fuel, so they have to go to gas maintenance."

"Our strategy is to find what patrol driving at night, lights to refuel."

Roy Hill now in the lighting tower installed on the GPS telemetry system, the system can use mobile tablet computer for field staff to provide maintenance information. The information from sensors to collect things, such as the tower opened a long time and how much fuel burning generators, which helps to reduce the energy cost of mining decision.

The solution can also adjust the lighting level during sunrise and sunset, and during the period of suspension in the automatic reduction of lighting plan.

Kerr said that the remote operation center can now open and close the lighting tower.

Iron tower lighting is traditionally based on the metal halide lamp, but in recent years has been the transition to LED, lumen packages increase.
