Fear of increasing crime, the city of Columbia, USA, installed new lighting in the city

The Columbia city plans to install new lighting as early as next month as a result of the increase in urban crime.

Katie Essing, executive director of the downtown community improvement area, said the city plans to install six test lights around hitcht and Broadway.

The Columbia Municipal Council approved the plan in January this year, with the aim of improving public safety. Just a few weeks ago, there were two shooting events at the same weekend in the centre of the city.

Sal Nuccio, the owner of the local "Eastside Tavern", has been living in the city for 20 years. He said, "I think the light will help, and it will be combined with the right police."

The biggest problem, Nuccio says, is that hundreds of people do not leave after they shut down in a bar and hang out in the center of the city. This problem has become worse and worse over the past five years.

"It's getting worse and worse. I've seen more than one time on a belt with a handgun.

Nuccio says police patrols are often needed in the city to help curb crime.

With regard to the lamp, Katie Essing said that after the installation of the luminaire, a meeting of the relevant parties will be held. If the new lamp is installed, it will continue to be installed. (Editor: LED network James)
