GE intelligent street lamp and the Police Association has developed the test

According to foreign media reports, General Electric (GE) smart city project will be in the containment of gun violence in the event of a tougher position. 27, ShotSpotter CEO Ralph Clark at the International Police Chiefs Association meeting announced plans to cooperate with GE. In the future, GE will deploy a gunshot detector developed by ShotSpotter in its smart city street lights. This is the first major law enforcement role in the GE smart city project. In the past, the project focused more on environmental protection and logistical support.

The core of cooperation will be hardware sharing between the two sides. Among them, the GE smart streetlights have built a powerful processor, it can fully support the operation of a ShotSpotter device. So for both companies, the key is to have a software to make street lights have gun detection capabilities.

Although some cities now deploy ShotSpotter, they can cover a very limited range - usually covering only a few square miles. But if you choose to use GE smart street, then you can cover the whole city at the lowest cost. "Now, we have the capacity to cover the whole city, and it doesn't cost to cover the whole city." Clark tells the media this way.

GE and ShotSpotter hope to use the street lighting system to help law enforcement agencies get the fastest shots at the exact location. Once the street light is detected and located at the location of the gun, it sends information to the police station, the law enforcement center, and the police smartphone. It is reported that ShotShotter can accurately detect the location of the shooting, gunshots and the number of shooters.

However, like most of the GE smart city technologies, the effect of ShotShotter street lighting systems on actual applications is hard to say.
