GE works with Police Association to develop intelligent street lamps for measuring shots.

According to foreign media reports, the General Electric (GE) smart city project will take a more tough stance in curbing gun violence. On the 27 day, ShotSpotter CEO Ralph Clark announced the cooperation plan with GE at the meeting of the International Association of police chiefs. In the future, GE will deploy the gunshot detector developed by ShotSpotter in the street lights of its smart city. This is the first major function of law enforcement in the GE smart city project. In the past, the project focused more on environmental protection and logistical support.

The core of cooperation will be hardware sharing between the two sides. Among them, GE's intelligent street lamp has built a powerful processor, which can fully support the operation of a ShotSpotter device. So for two companies, the key to making the street lamp have the function of gun detection is the need for a software.

Although some cities now deploy ShotSpotter, they can cover only a limited number of areas - usually only a few square miles. But if you choose to use GE intelligent street lamp, you can cover the whole city at the lowest cost. "Now we have the ability to cover the entire city and do not need to cover the cost of the whole city." Clark told the media.

GE and ShotSpotter hope to use this street lamp system to help law enforcement agencies get the precise location of shots at the fastest speed. Once the street light is detected and positioned to the location of the gunshot, it sends messages to the police station, the law enforcement center and the police smart phone. It is reported that ShotShotter can accurately detect the location of shots, the number of shots and the number of shooters.

However, like most of GE's intelligent city technology, it is hard to estimate the effect of ShotShotter street lamp system in actual application.
