Global OLED panel shipments in the first quarter over 90 million

According to Yonhap news agency, the latest market research firm IHS released on Thursday shows that the first quarter of this year, the global OLED panel shipments of more than 90 million pieces, including South Korean panel makers Samsung display companies dominate in this fast-growing market.

IHS data show that from 1 to March, the global OLED panel shipments reached 90 million 800 thousand, of which 96.2% (87 million 350 thousand) for the smart phone OLED panel, smart phone OLED panel shipments grew by 62.8% over last year.

It is understood that the sharp increase in the smartphone OLED panel shipments are mainly due to more smart phone manufacturers, especially Chinese companies, choose to use this energy-saving panel.

The OLED panel is self luminous and does not require backlighting, allowing mobile phone manufacturers to produce thinner, lighter phones, and this panel is lower than the LCD panel power consumption.

IHS data show that a quarter of the global OLED panel shipments, 2.2% for smart watches, and the 145 thousand for television.

According to IHS data, a quarter of Samsung's share of global OLED display panel shipments of 97.7%, ranked second in the LG Display, which accounted for 0.9%, ranked third in Taiwan's AU Optronics, accounting for 0.7%.
