Google contact lenses embedded in LED monitor blood sugar for two years listed

It is understood that Google contact with pharmaceutical giant Novartis contact lens has reached medical requirements, is expected to be listed within two years, has been sent to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval. More importantly, Google says the real-time contact lenses for blood sugar monitoring are not expensive. They are similar to regular contact lenses, and users can buy new "blood glasses" after the service life.

As for the charge of contact lenses, Google says the current produced by a certain substance in the eye and the blood sugar in the tears is enough to ensure the daily power consumption of contact lenses. Also, when contact lenses and devices wirelessly connect data, the glasses can also be wirelessly charged. At present, the wireless transmission distance of glasses is 8 cm, Google said that this low-power transmission harmless to humans, and 20 bits per second transmission rate is enough.

Like Google Glass, Google contact lenses were also born at Google X labs, but this time Google is focusing more on diabetes. According to the WHO (WTO) 2014 statistics, there are 347 million people worldwide suffering from diabetes, and there is a trend of global prevalence. In 2012, the direct death toll from diabetes was 1 million 500 thousand. The WHO expects the total number of deaths from diabetes to rise by more than 50% after 2024.

No matter what type of diabetes patients, they need to regularly check their blood sugar concentration, and the most common method is to drop the blood on the special test paper. "So measuring blood sugar is painful and troublesome, so many people with diabetes don't check it on time."." Google said when it announced plans to start its blood sugar glasses.

In January 2014, Google's Google X lab officially announced plans for contact lenses on official blogs, saying circuit and chips in contact lenses could measure blood sugar levels through blood sugar levels in the eyes. What's more, Google plans to embed LED in its glasses. If the patient's blood sugar is too high or too low, the LED becomes bright to alert.

In July of the same year, the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis announced that its ophthalmic drugs and equipment manufacturer Alcon (Alcon) in cooperation with Google, and said that this cooperation is to be Alcon Google contacts commercial opportunities. According to the Reuters and the Wall Street journal, Novartis CEO Jiang Muzhong (Joseph Jimenez) said the contact lenses will create "a lot of cash flow", and "products will be 5 years later" officially commercialized.

But the latest news is that "blood glasses" will be commercially available within two years.

In addition to blood sugar, Novartis said the lenses, presbyopic glasses, glasses can be used as a part of the treatment of cataract. However, because contact lenses are close to the eye, so the patient's eye is not suitable for use, otherwise the stability and accuracy of blood glucose testing will be affected.
