Green pine, blue LED phototherapy can cure infant jaundice

Chinese [LED] - Danish researchers found that turquoise and blue LED phototherapy for mitigation of infant hyperbilirubinemia (Hyperbilirubinemia, commonly known as jaundice) are equally effective, the findings published in the journal "Nature".

Aalborg University hospital (Aalborg University Hospital) is located in Aalborg in Denmark, the hospital department of Pediatrics researcher Fenn Albertson (Finn Ebbesen) led the research team, the test wavelength is 459 nm blue LED and wavelength of 497 nm green pine shade, two kinds of light with the same irradiance exposure in infants with jaundice on.

In previous experiments, the results of the fluorescent lamp test showed that the green light at the center wavelength of 490 nm was more effective.

The researchers found that infants with a greater than 33 weeks of jaundice were randomized to LED green light or LED blue light for up to 24 hours. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the two kinds of shade in reducing bilirubin (p=0.53).

In the experiment, a total of 46 infants were treated with green light, while the other 45 infants received blue light irradiation. The results showed that the bilirubin in infants was reduced by about 35.3% (32.5,37.3) and (27.1,36.8), respectively.

The researchers therefore concluded that the use of LED light on the premise of green pine and blue for the treatment of jaundice in infants equally effective.
