On Tuesday, OSRAM CEO Olaf Berlien said on OSRAM photoelectric semiconductor market and technology day held in Munich: "OSRAM is in a very advantageous position in the future technology and trend in terms of strategy and finance. We are becoming the leading photonics champion. "Our photoelectric semiconductor sector is gradually becoming a technological pillar for our strategic development."

OSRAM has been promoting the fast growing high-tech market. In addition to intelligent lighting technology, the future development will focus on visualization, sensing and processing. OSRAM is launching its product portfolio in this direction to enhance its image as a high-tech supplier. At present, LED products account for about 70% of combined sales. On this basis, OSRAM hopes to develop into a champion of photonics.

The product mix of OSRAM optoelectronics semiconductor business department can achieve innovative applications in such areas as automatic driving, gardening and building control. In the medium to long term, these future areas provide tremendous growth opportunities in the entire industry cycle. At present, due to currency fluctuations and uncertainty in the automotive industry, the sector's growth rate is temporarily below the level of previous years.

Since 2020, OSRAM optoelectronic semiconductor expects revenue growth rate of fixed currency level to be about 10%, and the adjusted EBITDA profit margin is between 23% and 29%. OSRAM CEO Olaf Berlien said, "in the long run, our outlook is still improving. Although we expect some slowdown in photoelectric semiconductor in the near future due to market impact, the visibility of market development in the near future is limited. For the fiscal year 2018/19, planned revenue growth is expected to be between 5% and 10%, with adjusted EBITDA margins between 22% and 26%.

New photonics solutions can boost growth, such as higher resolution glare free pixel lights and energy saving LED horticultural lamps, enabling plants to grow indoors and improve yield and vegetable quality.
