In the end there is no effect of LED on health? The European Union said SCHEER...

The health, environment and emerging technology risk Science Committee (SCHEER) recently released a long report, entitled "LED potential risk to human health". The overall conclusion of the report is "the Committee concluded that there is no evidence that the normal use of the general healthy population (Zhao Minghe display) LED will have a direct impact on health."

Of course, the solid state lighting (SSL) occupied the market in the field of lighting lighting, there has been a debate over whether the short wavelength blue energy peak white LED phosphor converted from most of the risks caused by the human eye? The United States Department of energy (DOE) has also repeatedly stated.

The European Commission SCHEER detailed study on this issue, the specific assessment of the impact on human skin and blue energy. The committee determined that human exposure is far lower than the previously established safety limits in the blue energy lighting and display. The report pointed out that the LED source in the absence of ultraviolet (UV) light source (including the other may reduce the risk to the human body caused by the sun).

LightingEurope (European lighting organization) expressed support for the report. The Secretary General Ourania Georgoutsakou said: "LightingEurope welcomed the Commission's conclusion that there is no evidence that the general population the normal use of LED will have a direct impact on the health. One of the main goals of LightingEurope is to market to prompt quality lighting, and support consumers to make informed choices."

Of course, the report is in the draft stage, Georgoutsakou added: "we welcome the SCHEER held a public consultation period, provide advice to the interested friends."

The report warns that LED also has some potential problems, including discomfort and glare, especially in the automotive headlamp and other applications. These problems exist only in LED. The report also mentioned and street lighting glare, but pointed out that glare has always been a problem, this is mainly due to the lighting design and lamp selection time, more consideration is the energy efficiency and quality are put in the back. It is said that in any case, the glare problem for healthy people is only temporary rather than permanent effect.

The report further concluded that some LED products compared with the traditional light source, may have a greater impact on the circadian rhythm, but there is still no evidence that circadian rhythms can lead to adverse health effects. (compiled: LED James)
