Infineon push low-cost LED drive BCR 450

Infineon Technologies (Infineon) launched a low-cost LED driver IC BCR 450, a new component for driving high power LED and design, combined with the external transistor, with precise current control, temperature protection, overvoltage and overcurrent protection function.

Because the BCR 450 does not produce electromagnetic radiation, so it is suitable for electromagnetic interference (EMI) sensitive applications, such as vehicle lighting (including buses, ships, trains and aircraft), and equipped with communication bus system for medical applications etc.. In addition to the general lighting system, BCR 450 is also suitable for applications such as building lighting and lighting, advertising, emergency vehicle warning lights, emergency lights, and road safety lights.

BCR 450 for the number of LED and taking advantage of high wattage (such as in the design of 0.5W, 1W or 3W range), the other collocation of an external transistor. As long as the LED lighting device manufacturers simply transform the external transistor, it can be used flexibly from 100mA to 1A output current.

The 450 component of the BCR application circuit number, without the inductance and the capacitance and the diode, so PCB space requirement is very small; in addition also excluded will affect the switching mode driving electrolytic capacitor application service life. Since BCR 450 does not require a capacitor, the life of the LED system can be extended. Due to the long time operation of the LED light source, the temperature control is very important for the temperature control system, so the temperature closing function and the over voltage and over current protection are adopted in the device.

For most of the lighting market (especially building lighting), because the human eye is very sensitive to the deviation of light color, so the entire LED light source chain must be able to do the same light output. BCR 450 in the entire operating temperature range, the output current accuracy of only +/-10%, can strongly support the LED lighting for homogeneous light output requirements.
