Integrated 8 channel LED driver with switch mode boost and SEPIC controller

MAX16807/MAX16808 is an integrated, highly efficient white or RGB LED driver. These devices are designed for LCD backlight with multiple LED strings or other LED lighting applications. MAX16807/MAX16808 current mode PWM controller adjusts the voltage required for the LED array. According to the input voltage and LED voltage range, the device can be used to boost or Buck (SEPIC) topology. MAX16807/MAX16808 features a 8V to 26.5V input voltage range. A wide frequency tuning range (20kHz to 1MHz) allows for optimal design by compromising efficiency and board space.

The MAX16807/MAX16808 LED driver consists of 8 open drain, constant absorption current LED driver outputs, rated continuous operating voltage of 36V. LED current control circuit can make the current matching accuracy between the LED strings to achieve + 3%, so that the 55mA current higher than the LED series parallel operation. The output enable pin can be used for simultaneous PWM dimming of all output channels. Dimming frequency range of 50Hz to 30kHz, dimming ratio up to 5000:1. The constant current output is set by a single resistor. The LED current of each output channel can be adjusted up to 55mA.

MAX16807/MAX16808 can be run in a single mode of operation, also can be controlled by the microcontroller (C) through the industrial standard 4 wire serial interface control. MAX16808 includes a circuit that automatically detects LED open circuit.

The MAX16807/MAX16808 features an over temperature protection function that can operate over extended -40 C to +125 DEG C temperature range using thermally enhanced, 28 pin TSSOP package with exposed pad.
