Hokuriku University Shi TA Advanced Institute of science and technology to the British developed the performance of OLED components of circularly polarized light with visible light. This is the basic technology of 3D display on OLED display and electronic paper. Circularly polarized light can be realized by using the visible light from the cathode with a strong magnetism, which is injected into the light emitting layer and controlled by the spin polarized carrier.
In the future, we will further improve the circularly polarized light, and distinguish the 2 parts of the left circularly polarized light and the right circularly polarized light. In order to make each part of the parallax image with different information, in order to achieve 3D display.
The cathode of common OLED components usually adopts Al and other nonmagnetic materials. The development of the technology for the injection of spin polarized electrons from the strong cathode to the light-emitting layer, the cathode using Fe and other strong magnets. When the magnetic field was loaded at 3000 Oe at room temperature, a circular polarization luminosity of about 0.5% was observed.
The circularly polarized light emission based on the spin injection into the light emitting layer has been observed in the GaAs based inorganic LED, but it can not be used in displays because of the infrared light emission. In addition, the precise control of the light-emitting color of inorganic light-emitting components need to change the base material. The use of organic molecules can be controlled by changing the functional group to control the luminous color.
