Japan will reduce the cost of OLED panel pigment 1/12

Co. (Dai Nippon Printing, Ltd., DNP) in gravure printing machine will be coated on the glass plate in, OLED (OEL, OrganicElectro-Luminescence) panel production technology. Compared to the mainstream of the mask evaporation method, the cost of DNP pigment material down to about 1/12. Initially expected to be used to display text and other information can be converted to electronic billboards, the target in the spring of 2010 to achieve practical level.

The successful use of DNP in gravure printing, uniform coating OLED color ink used when the pigment. On the glass substrate thirty cm square, 0.7 mm thickness, OLED layer of three layer thickness of 160 nm, the film thickness of each layer is thinner than ordinary TV, brightness is more uniform.

The new technology used in the OLED pigment is not commonly used in low molecular pigment, but soluble in solvent (solvent) polymer light-emitting materials. By changing the molecular size, adjust the viscosity, when printing pigment fully and evenly spread; in addition, as printed on the glass substrate can not absorb ink on the printing will adjust the pressure in the film thickness accuracy of nano units, also to ensure uniformity.

Manufacturing method of OLED mainly is placed on a glass substrate fixture, with steam pigment coated on the substrate, called mask deposition; however, this method requires large vacuum equipment, the equipment is quite expensive, and because the pigment vapor diffusion, also makes the material cost increase.

The production of the new technology was also shortened from about four months of evaporation to just one month, almost as much as the original $1/4. At the same time, the film thickness uniformity is good, is also very suitable for mass production. Although the OLED has its own advantages such as light emitting, electricity saving and so on, the competitiveness of cost is a major issue.

OLED panel issued 100 candle (candela) required driving voltage of 12 volts (Volt), only for ordinary electronic billboards used LED (light-emitting diode) of the 1/3, suitable for the store's electronic billboards. DNP plans to develop a variety of small, short delivery posters, store head advertising (POP), promotional panels and other uses, estimated in 2012 the turnover of up to about 1 billion 200 million yen.
