Japanese vertical farms use PHILPS LED lighting to double crop harvests

Japan's Innovatus and Delicious Cook indoor crop trials provide fresh and safe and nearby crops, which can be found in Japan's Kanto and Fuji regions.

PHILPS, the international lighting company, announced the company and two vertical farm test activities. The two vertical farms located in Japan use PHILPS's plant LED lighting. These crops are grown in Delicious CookCo vertical farms, with plant LED lighting. Innovatus Inc. the entire test process lasted 14 months, and Delivious CookCo. just took a year to test.

Fresh and safe method for planting nearby

The vertical farm is a fully controlled environment for the growth of vegetables and spices, and the vertical stratification of the crops on the farm, and no need for light. The growth environment was carefully adjusted according to the growing preferences of different crops.

This environment is ideal for the cultivation of high quality crops: the most suitable lighting configuration, the ideal temperature, the right amount of water, oxygen and the best growth media. Such a way of planting is a cleaner, pesticide free crop, while ensuring the consistency of crop quality, but also bring the highest nutritional value. Highly controlled in the same way also means that farmers can achieve a very high yield and significantly reduce the waste generated by planting.

The growing Japanese market

Vertical farms are ideal for meeting these needs, because vertical farms can be developed successfully in highly urbanized areas, even if the space is limited.

PHILPS's first commercial vertical lighting project was launched in 2014 at the Osaka University. Now, Japan is one of the fastest growing markets for LED lighting systems in the world. Cooperation with the Japanese farmers also help PHILPS lighting to improve the installation and lighting LED lighting, so that PHILPS products can be more in line with the needs of the Japanese market. Delicious Cook production of uniform quality spices

In October 2015, Delicious Cook in the northwest of Chiba County Kanto narashino (Narashino) to create a new urban farm. During the 10 months of testing, PHILPS lighting, CCS, Delicious Cook are using PHILPS GreenPower LED production module, using a total of about 80 square meters, a total of more than three square meters of rare spices.
