Latvia implementation of energy-saving outdoor lighting project (ESOLi)

The European Commission Energy Saving outdoor lighting project (ESOLi) implemented in Latvia. For the highway, residential areas, urban centers, two roads, industrial parks and parks to provide better lighting, so that people have a sense of security in the improved urban environment. If the purpose is to save energy (reduce carbon dioxide emissions and save money), more effective control and management of lighting systems in the city, to shape the image of the green city, it is necessary to take into account the intelligent street lighting system. It is easier to achieve these goals with the help of energy agencies and street lighting operators.

At present, about 8 million of street lighting in Europe consumes about 6 billion kwh of electricity per year. If the intelligent lighting system to replace the traditional street lighting systems, such as the use of adaptive outdoor lighting or LED lighting system, you can save more than 60% energy consumption.

In order to clear the barriers to new technologies, the European Commission and the smart energy Europe plan jointly launched the energy saving outdoor lighting project (ESOLi). The project began in 2010 and was implemented in Latvia by Ekodoma ltd.. The main purpose of the project is to increase the understanding of intelligent lighting systems, and promote the use of these technologies throughout europe. To improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the field of outdoor lighting, the establishment of innovative financing plan, from the experience of the countries do not have the relevant knowledge of the teaching system of the country, to establish a wide range of national and European level lighting expert network, improving the market environment for the Energy Service Companies.

Ekodoma's mission is to promote knowledge about energy conservation, coordinate procurement plans to facilitate the development of legislation and standards, as well as to understand the needs of consumers.

Practical example

Intelligent lighting system has been used in Latvia, Riga and ogly, soon the system will be used in the new Ye M Gava and Sal Duus area. These cities will have financial and environmental benefits (reducing CO2 emissions). These projects have technical solutions and two aspects of the use of green investment plan.

In the area of ogly street lighting remote control and management system is installed at the end of 2010. A total of 40 streets are equipped with lighting management devices that can simultaneously control 3 lighting lines and 450 lights. Control and management system is conducive to energy conservation, thereby reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Lighting can be remotely controlled, that is, the user can control the whole system from their computer control on / off.

The management system enables the user to control and manage the entire city lighting, ranging from the office to any place that can be connected to the internet.

Compared with the old system, through the use of intelligent management systems, Riga region to save 5792 kwh of electricity and carbon dioxide emissions of 2299 kg (one month).
