Lighting and television applications rise, OLED materials market is expected to soar

According to a recent report by NanoMarkets, an industry analysis firm, the OLED industry has received a total of $1 billion in investment over the past 10 years and is now expected to take off. The company predicts that the OLED materials market will reach $2 billion 700 million by 2015.

According to NanoMarkets's report, "OLED materials market - 2008", in the laboratory test, the efficiency of OLED lighting has exceeded the fluorescent lamp, is expected to create a new era of energy-saving solid lighting. The report suggests that the increasing emphasis on energy conservation and energy costs, will promote the rapid development of the OLED lighting industry, and stimulate market demand for OLED materials. The report predicts that by 2015 there will be 90% of the OLED material used for lighting applications.

NanoMarkets pointed out that OLED technology is expected to enter a more extensive commercial production is another strong sign that NOKIA recently announced its suppliers to produce OLED monitors. In addition, GE Global Research successfully uses the tape process to produce OLED devices, indicating that the recent OLED lighting output will be greater than the display.

In particular, the rise of lighting and television applications, is a positive trend for the material suppliers, because these applications require large OLED, the use of materials than the phone and MP3 player display.

The researchers also pointed out that, with the winding process becomes faster and more efficient, flexible substrate will occupy a greater share of OLED materials. The report predicts that by 2015, about 1/3 (by area) of the OLED will be manufactured using flexible substrates.

Another key indicator of industrial growth is the ability to develop and sell a full range of OLED material systems, the increasing number of manufacturers, which is good news for display and lighting device buyers.
