Linear Technology Corporation (Linear Technology) can provide up to 500mA LED the current fractional charge pump, high current white LED driver LTC3214. By monitoring the voltage at both ends of the LED current source, its efficient multi-mode architecture allows automatic switching between 1X, 1.5x, or 2x boost mode, and only when the ILED voltage drop is detected. This allows the LTC3214 to maximize the efficiency (up to 94%) over the entire operating voltage range of the lithium ion battery.

The switching frequency of the 900kHz and a few external components (number two is connected across the capacitor, two programming resistors, and between VIN and CPO two bypass capacitors) allows the solution for plate area is very small and very economical, is very suitable for mobile phone camera and other portable lighting products in the video and flash applications. The LTC3214 uses a built-in soft start circuit which prevents excessive inrush current during startup. When the input voltage is close to the LED forward voltage, the ultra low dropout current source maintains an accurate LED current.
