Maxim Integrated Products launched a highly integrated power management IC (PMIC) MAX17065, the device contains a road, a road reversed-phase step-up DC-DC converter DC-DC converter, positive and negative voltage charge pump and a low dropout linear regulator (LDO). The PMIC uses a proprietary Maxim high voltage technology that integrates all the power required for active matrix, organic light emitting diode (AM-OLED) displays. MAX17065 provides a cost-effective, high-performance solution for cellular phones, digital cameras (DSC), MP3 players and other consumer products.
MAX17065 has excellent performance and great flexibility. The device operates from +2.3V to +4.5V input voltage, and the boost converter provides +5.35V fixed output, efficiency up to 94%. Inverting converter with -0.5V to -5V adjustable output, efficiency up to 83%. Each switch has a cycle by cycle current limit, and can choose to jump pulse and forced PWM mode, 600kHz/1.2MHz optional switching frequency allows the use of small size of the external inductance. Positive charge pump output voltage can be set to +5.5V to +9V, the negative charge pump output voltage range of -0.5V to -5V. LDO provides +1.9V output, load current up to 60mA.
In order to save board space, the MAX17065 integrates a synchronous rectifier, so that no external power components are needed. In addition, the I2C interface can be set by the switching frequency, mode of operation, the current limit of the boost and inverter, and the inverter and the output voltage of the charge pump.
MAX17065 offers a space saving 4mm x 4mm, 28 pin TQFN package, operating from -40 to +85 DEG C for extended temperature range. Chip starts at $1.20 (1000 chips, us FOB).
