Maxim high voltage LED driver for automotive and general lighting applications

Maxim Integrated Products (letter) launched MAX16831 high voltage, high power, constant current LED driver, built-in analog and PWM dimming. The LED driver integrated floating LED current sense amplifier and dimming MOSFET driver, the number of components can be minimized, and the use of high brightness (HB) to meet the high reliability requirements of LED automotive and general lighting applications. The MAX16831 operates from an input voltage range of 5.4V to 76V, which can withstand harsh operating conditions, thus ensuring compatibility with cold start and load rejection (up to 80V). This device has been optimized, the new car headlights can meet the design requirements, ideal for yuanguangdeng and the lamp, adaptive headlight system, daytime running lights and fog lights.

MAX16831 operates at high frequencies, with wide (1000:1) dimming range, built in analog and PWM control. Compared with the 200Hz ramp wave signal, the analog control signal simplifies the design of multi-level brightness adjustment. In the entire vehicle operating temperature range, the LED driver can provide + 5% precision LED current control to ensure excellent brightness matching. Up to 100mV of the LED current sensing benchmark as well as the 1.4A/1.2A source / out current capability of the internal gate driver can achieve high efficiency, thus minimizing device heating. The dedicated enable / shutdown input will turn off the mode current down to less than 45 A.

MAX16831 has output overvoltage and overcurrent protection, as well as thermal and LED short circuit protection. The device can operate at the temperature range of -40 DEG C to +125 DEG C, and is made of lead free, 5mm * 5mm, 32 pin TQFN package, with a bare pad. Chip starts at $2.33 (1000 chips, us FOB).
