Maxim launched the built-in MOSFET switch 8 series white LED (WLED) driver

Maxim launched the built-in MOSFET switch 8 series white LED (WLED) driver MAX17061. The device adopts an internal switch current mode boost controller to drive the LED array, which can drive up to 8 series of parallel LED (each string can be connected to 10 LED). In order to ensure uniform LED brightness, each series of LED is driven by a current source, and the current balance accuracy can reach 1.5%. In addition, MAX17061 also provides a DPWM signal for precise control of WLED brightness. The DPWM signal through the PWM interface, SMBus compatible interface, or both at the same time control. The frequency of the DPWM signal is set by an external resistor to further increase the flexibility. This precise and flexible control method makes MAX17061 an ideal choice for WLED backlight in notebook.

The device has a low feedback voltage at each LED (LED current of 25mA, only 625mV) to reduce power consumption and improve efficiency. The device has selectable switching frequencies (500kHz, 750kHz, or 1MHz), allowing the designer to optimize the efficiency of the device according to the size of the specific application. MAX17061 high reliability, with multiple protection functions, including: output overvoltage, LED series open circuit, LED series short circuit and thermal shutdown protection.

MAX17061 operates from a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 26V, providing fixed (25mA) or adjustable (15mA to 30mA) full swing LED current. The device provides tiny 4mm x 4mm, 28 pin TQFN package, operating at -40 C to +85 C extended temperature range.
