Micro LED has more advantages than OLED, or open the "smart display" era!

At present there may be no commercial Micro-LED panel in production, but the technology is on the rise, is likely to replace today's high-end smart mobile phone screen. In addition to the image quality at least the same with OLED, Micro-LED technology also indicates that the lower power consumption, higher peak brightness and even more pixel density panel.

However, in addition to image quality, Micro-LED also appeared some exciting new prospects.

The Micro-LED display is also likely to usher in the era of intelligent display. In other words, other electronic devices embedded in the display, but now the capacitive touch and image display function, can also perform other tasks.

Whether Micro-LED can be achieved?

One of the advantages of Micro-LED less is a very compact size. The size of 100 microns or less, these LED than the width of a hair is thin. When placed in the display panel in a matrix, the LED between the left sub pixels far more space than the conventional TFT, these spaces can be (thin film transistor) and other circuit bit stuffing. On the contrary, the complementary circuit will be limited to small individual components, such as transistors, resistors and other diode. These circuits can still form complex and useful, but still have to deal with the other main processing in other places.

The disadvantage is the electronic components etched into LED chips or other custom chips for TFT binding will be very difficult and expensive, the potential application is quite limited. If many different companies want different things, the economy may not be feasible. Embedded fingerprint scanning may ultimately be a universal intelligent mobile phone function, but for facial scanning or temperature sensing applications is not necessarily.

On the contrary, micro-LED chip manufacturers will display intelligent components and LED surface mount chip components integrated together may be more meaningful. Do not have circuit etched into various display layer, intelligent display module can be like a conventional integrated circuit with custom TFT installation.

This can make intelligent technology in any part of the screen, while the slightly more modular panel production. At present, the production of micro-LED display is not feasible, because the manufacturing machine has not achieved the ability of 100 m LED for accurate placement.

Intelligent display can do what?
