NIMS and SHARP joint research and development of the most perfect LED to achieve the requirements of the 8K broadcast color gamut

Japan's National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) and Sharp Co, 23, officially announced this month, has been successfully developed for the 8K ultra high definition screen so far the most perfect LED program. This design through adjusting the coloration efficiency of green phosphor and effectively improve the reduction degree of red, green and blue screen "colors", and has reached the requirements of 8K broadcast scheme of LCD color gamut, do not lose the ability of the same level.

According to reports, this new screen using NIMS and SHARP joint R & D gamma Alon green fluorescent material, which can achieve a pure green color, so that the screen color can cover 90% of the BT.2020 standard color gamut.

The researchers said that the more common way to improve the large screen color gamut is the use of cadmium quantum dot technology, but from an environmental point of view, this technology is not desirable. NIMS and Sharp Co's new LED program only need to replace the backlight source in the white LED components can achieve color gamut upgrade, to avoid the use of harmful elements brought about by the cost and security risks.

At present, Japan has decided to start in 2018, the gradual popularization of 8K broadcast, and in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games to make 8K ultra high definition as the mainstream.
