New LED makes new generation lighting system possible

According to Lei Feng net, quantum dots have experienced important moments. Last month, Samsung's first quantum TV was officially shipped, and its output is gradually increasing, which means that the promise of 15 years ago seems to have been achieved.

At present, researchers at Hiroshima University in Japan have used silicon based quantum dots to develop a new type of light-emitting diode, and promise that this will be a new revolution in the history of lighting system. These researchers have created an inorganic / organic hybrid light-emitting diode which can emit blue and white light through quantum dots. This blue white light emitting diode will enable us to create a new generation of free lighting and display lighting system.

In a research report published in Applied Physics Letters, researchers said that their quantum dot led could emit light at a voltage of only 6 volts, and 78% of the effective light emission came from silicon quantum dots.

In order to let you know how these figures are calculated, about 6 years ago, the efficiency of the quantum dots used in the most advanced electroluminescent diodes reduced from about 90% to about 15%, because these quantum dots must be loaded into an organic thin film for conducting electricity.

These Japanese researchers also said their LED generated input and output power densities of 280 and 350 times that of previously reported devices. The high input and output power density of these quantum dot based LED is due to the continuous optimization of these hierarchical structures to better transfer the carrier.

The actual physical size of the LED can provide an effective area of 4 square millimeters, which is 40 times that of the commercial LED. In addition, the thickness of the LED is only 0.5 millimeters.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect of the survey is that this new type of LED is produced by solution process, which needs to be carried out under room temperature chamber pressure.

The manufacturing process needs to select a glass substrate, and then pour some conductive polymer solution and colloidal silicon quantum solution on it.

Hiroshima University professor and research leader Ken-ichi Saitow added: "quantum dots LED as the next generation of LED has attracted a lot of attention. Although it needs some breakthroughs in its successful application, the quantum dot hybrid LED will be far more fruitful than we can imagine.
