New research in the United States green light source can reduce chronic pain

Modern life stress, resulting in chronic pain to come, many people may have to spend on painkillers, but new research from the University of Arizona found that green light irradiation LED help to relieve the pain in the future for patients with chronic pain, it will be a boon.

Dr. Mohab Ibrahim of the University of Arizona found that sitting under a tree in a headache seems to have an analgesic effect. Out of curiosity, he decided to do a simple experiment to test whether the green light can really relieve chronic pain.

The team led by Dr. Mohab Ibrahim studied three groups of white rats with neuropathic pain. They will be the first group of mice on the green LED lamp with a transparent plastic container, the daily continuous light eight hours, for a period of five days. Second groups of mice were placed in the general indoor lighting environment, but wearing special contact lenses, allowing only green light through the mouse eyes. As for the third groups, the white mice in the control group wore opaque contact lenses.

The experimental results showed that compared with the control group, the first two groups were able to withstand stronger temperature and tactile stimulation, and no side effects were found during the experiment. And after the last light, the mice continued to maintain the effect for the next four days.

Scientists initially identified, this may be because the green light increased the level of endogenous opiate like substances (endogenous opioid) in mice. This substance protects against pain and relieves inflammation of the nervous system. The findings are published in the February issue of the journal Pain (Pain).

Currently, the researchers are 10 patients with fibromyalgia (fibromyalgia) patients for a period of 10 weeks of human clinical trials, the initial results are encouraging. Because of the significant analgesic effect, even two patients refused to return the green LED light source to the research team.

Although the research is still in the initial stage, but Mohab Ibrahim said, this light to create a green LED light source, with considerable possibility, can reduce chronic pain in particular, and this therapy is safe and effective and affordable. He hopes to be able to launch a green LED light therapy, or with other methods, to help many people suffering from pain.
