OSRAM CEO proposal to expand the general lighting market SIEMENS discontent?

[LED] - according to foreign media reports, the Reuters (Reuters) yesterday (16), German OSRAM lighting group (OSRn.DE) chief executive on expanding general LED lighting market strategy was the largest shareholder of the company SIEMENS (SIEGEn.DE) attack.

Earlier, some of the shareholders of OSRAM in 2015 announced its intention to invest 1 billion euros in Malaysia to establish a new LED semiconductor factory strategy disappointed, resulting in its share price plummeted by 30%.

Analysts also believe that the move is an adventure, worried that OSRAM will be competitive in the street lighting and home lighting market.

Chief executive officer Olaf Berlien defended the move and told shareholders at the company's annual meeting in Munich that rapid technological change means that no investment is zero risk. Berlien, who has been in office for a year, is the former manager of Thyssen Krupp (TKAG.DE), 53 years old, he said, to maintain the status quo does not change is the worst choice". However, OSRAM is still holding 18% stake in the former parent company SIEMENS expressed dissatisfaction with the move.

SIEMENS Bleiweiss on behalf of Christian, said, as long as the strategic shift, OSRAM's risk forecast will significantly increase, he added, at the meeting they will not formally support Berlien. "

This hurt Berlien's reputation. But SIEMENS has not been able to persuade the other 70.1% investors in the meeting with Berlien's approval to follow its lead.

Many investors are worried that the semiconductor industry will face German chip maker Jimengda (Qimonda) had problems, Jimengda filed for bankruptcy in 2009, Infineon (IFXGn.DE) in debt.

The German Asset Management Co portfolio manager Tim Albrecht said he had to take positions in OSRAM's share price weakness, although he has expressed doubts, but he is now holding 180 million euros worth of OSRAM stock.

"So far, I have worked for the fund manager for 15 years, often experience such things, unfortunately, some companies like Yi Carlos (Icarus), because the semiconductor or solar business investment plans of the aspiring fly high, but last fall. He also said at the shareholders' meeting, I hope OSRAM can get rid of this fate".

Investors had hoped that OSRAM, the only global company focused on lighting, would be able to focus on the development of the automotive and specialty lighting market after it decided to get out of its recession.

In addition, Holland PHILPS will also be listed on the sale of its lighting department, trying to focus on medical scanners and medical technology and other core business. (compile /LEDinside Nicole)
