PHILPS? LIFX smart LED bulbs want to win by price

Tencent digital news, the emerging intelligent light bulb market is becoming more and more intense, and a large number of new products are pouring into the market. Recently, Holland lighting giant PHILPS announced the launch of the Hue Go - a lightweight version of its iconic Hue - connected LED bulb. And Australian intelligent lighting startups LIFX also did not fall behind and launched its own new product.

As early as 2012, LIFX launched a pioneering product that supports Wi-Fi and discolourable LED bulbs. Now, it has finally launched a product that can only make white light. This product, LIFX White 800, sells for $40 (about 245 yuan) and is the cheapest of the company's products. The product's support for Wi-Fi means that it can work without a central control.

Earlier, PHILPS had just announced that the price of its downgrade, Hue Lux, was priced at $20 (about 123 yuan). Lux can only send out white light to support ZigBee connection, but it must be controlled through Hue Bridge. At present, the price of two light bulbs plus a medium - controlled suit is $80 (about 490 yuan).

Hue Lux is obviously cheaper, and large purchases save more. But is Hue Lux the best choice? Not necessarily!

As far as specifications are concerned, White 800 has some micro advantages: 890 lumens (equivalent to 60W incandescent lamps), which are more than 140 lumens more than Lux. In addition, the company claims that White 800 has a "choice between a warm light source and a cold light source", the first bulb in the entry level product to support the function. The product specification list indicates that the color temperature of the bulb is between 2700 and 6500K.

White 800 is particularly attractive to those who want to try home automation, but most of the home interconnected devices are particularly expensive.

And, because of the position of the light bulb in people's daily life, it is a good start for most people to try it as the first device in the smart home.
