PIDA: the grain output of Taiwan LED epitaxy declined 2% last year

Yesterday (29), the Taiwan photoelectric Association (PIDA) pointed out that the grain output value of the LED epitaxy chip in Taiwan region declined by 2% in 2017, reaching 33 billion 800 million NT, but the overall industry profit was obviously improved.

PIDA said that in response to the global ecological upheaval of the global LED component industry, in 2017, the Taiwan area LED component factory adjusted its product portfolio to reduce or withdraw from the competitive backlighting and lighting applications, adding such niche products as four yuan, vehicle use, invisible light, and Mini LED. There are even a few big factories that extend the MOCVD epitaxy technology to VCSEL and GaN HEMT components.

According to the statistics of PIDA, the grain output value of LED epitaxy chip in Taiwan region in the transition period declined by 2% in 2017 to reach 33 billion 800 million NT, but the overall industry profit was obviously improved. The top ten LED epitaxy chips and grain revenue, from the total loss of 5 billion 940 million NT in 2016, to 1 billion 820 million NT in 2017.

In addition, in 2017, the output value of LED package and module in Taiwan area was 78 billion 400 million NT, and the decline was 6%. LED package, module before the top ten manufacturers revenue, the total surplus from 650 million tot to a loss of 130 million NT.

On the other hand, PIDA also points out that, with the highest industrial guidance policy of "2025 China" in mainland China, the application of national resources to the research and development of LED components, the domestic substitution effect, and the expansion of the LED terminal product ratio, make the LED elements in the mainland the top of the world.

PIDA emphasizes that the focus of the future development of LED industry in Taiwan should be based on the focus of the niche application of the products. It is necessary to establish a cooperation platform across fields and different industries, to improve the efficiency of product development and to speed up the development of the upper and lower reaches of the upper and lower reaches of the sea.
