Recovery of LED lamp recycling: the next ten years will become the industry big problem

After nearly ten years of mainstream use, LED lamps still account for only a small part of the European waste, accounts for less than 2%, so the LED lamp seems to do the long service life requirements. However, recycling is another matter.

"Less than 2% this data comes from Eucolight. Eucolight is a group responsible for the supervision of lamps and lighting products collecting and recycling organization in Europe, claimed to collect 79% of the processing lamps in 18 countries.

As a new generation of light sources, LED has many advantages: high luminous efficiency, low power consumption, long service life, easy control, free maintenance, safety and environmental protection etc.. The above data show that LED products currently also indirectly keep in good condition.

This is the good side.

However, we should also pay attention to the future recovery of the reuse of LED lamps.

Since LED began to enter the mainstream, a part of the ten years in the past has been good.

Nigel Harvey, chief executive of the British Light recyclers, members of the Recolight Eucolight pointed out that in the next 10 years, about 30-40% LED will take the waste, and this occurs after the LED industry will pay more attention to recycling, rather than in the past more simple design.

According to foreign media statistics, at present, more than 90% fluorescent tube material in the UK has been reused. The design of the LED lamp will make it even harder to reach 50%.

Nigel Harvey said, "one of the benefits of LED technology is its material range, the use of the design, shape, size and other explosive growth", "LED allows more innovation in product manufacturing mode. However, in recycling, the heterogeneity of products will bring the cost of. More material, they are bonded together, usually use adhesives and foam, making them very difficult to separate the use of mechanical technology. Have a variety of materials: plastic, glass, ceramics, aluminum, copper, and PCB."

Recovery of LED lamp caused concern at the Eucolight meeting. "Therefore, the delegates understand constitute the future technology of LED and LED recovery technology and choice", Eucolight said.

We will continue to follow developments. (Editor: LED James)
