Japan's SHARP said in August 4th that it will launch a light emitting diode (LED) technology into the lighting equipment market, in order to face the panel and solar cell business, and then build a new pillar of profitability. Due to the rising cost of power generation and rising greenhouse gas emissions, energy saving and longer life LED as the next generation of lighting equipment prospects. SHARP's new LED lighting will be launched in Japan in September 1st, priced from 44100 yen to 199500 yen (410-1856). Overseas launch time has not yet been decided, and SHARP is not willing to talk about sales or market share targets. However, the current cost of LED is higher than the average fluorescent lamp, and SHARP will face fierce competition from PHILPS and Toshiba.
