Researchers at the University of Rochester and the Kodak company recently announced that they developed a new nano crystal material, this material can keep emitting state after absorbing energy, instead of the energy dissipated by heat. The material is expected to be used in high brightness LED lighting, cheap laser manufacturing and other applications, can also be used to develop a thinner TV, display products.
Todd, a professor at the University of Rochester, Krauss, said: "the absorption of energy from the photons will dissipate energy in two ways, either by light or by heat. "The type of crystal that dissipates energy in the first way is called a non scintillating nanocrystal (non-blinking), while the second one is called a nanocrystal (blinking).
The professor and the Kodak company, the Naval Research Laboratory and Cornell University researchers found the new nano crystal material. This new material is by Kodak, Kieth Kahen and Krauss Megan Hahn at Cornell University laboratory using a variety of common synthesis of different components.
Finally, the nanocrystals can be kept in a state of no flicker for 4 hours, but only a few microseconds to a few minutes on the usual nano material. The core of this material by cadmium and selenium, zinc and selenium case material is used, and in the internal structure of these semiconductor materials even in the transition, and in general the nano crystal interior boundary structure exists obviously between different materials. And it is this uniform transition structure that allows the number of photons emitted from the nanocrystals to be consistent with the number of photons absorbed.
As long as the change in the size of the crystal, this new nano crystal material can emit a variety of different colors of light, Todd Krauss think this unnamed nano crystal technology is expected to replace the existing OLED light-emitting technology.
