Seoul semiconductor sued U.S. retailer Kmart patent infringement

South Korea's LED factory, Seoul semiconductor, said the company formally filed a patent lawsuit against Kmart, a large American retailer, saying that the LED products sold by Kmart had infringed the patent of LED related products.

Kmart said the Seoul semiconductor products have been selling the company violated many patents, such as color rendering (CRI), acrich and fluorescent powder formula enhancement pattern, LED wafer growth, LED wafer process, polycrystalline assembly technology, the whole week light LED lamp technology and Seoul semiconductor polycrystalline film technology.

Seoul semiconductor lighting division vice president NamKi-bum said: "over the past 25 years, we have invested considerable resources for the development of friendly environmental technology. In order to have excellent market competitiveness, Seoul semiconductor has been very serious about all of the actions against patent infringement and protection of intellectual property rights need to take action.

Seoul semiconductor accused of patent infringement products also include Nobel prize winner and Steven DenBaars related patents LED. At the same time, it also includes a LED bulb, which is popular with American consumers, and is usually used to replace the traditional incandescent lamp.

Up to now, Seoul semiconductor has won about 50 patent infringement lawsuits, which also includes the patent infringement proceedings with the advanced development of Optoelectronics (AOT) in 2003. In 2015, the company also won a lawsuit with LED TV maker Craig Electronics. As of 2016, Seoul semiconductor won favor of the jury in the United States to win the lawsuit with the Japanese LED chip maker EnPlas, forcing the EnPlas to pay up to $4 million (NT $1 million 266 thousand).

Seoul semiconductor said it has worked with the U.S. law firm Latham & Watkins, hired to assist the company to win the lawsuit Enplas lawyer Larry Gotts challenge.
