Should new street lamps be equipped with electric vehicle charging piles? British Transport Minister's position

Chris Grayling, Chris Grelling, said the new street lights should be equipped with standard electric vehicle charging piles.

He announced that the new proposal was designed to make electric vehicles easier to charge, rather than petrol or diesel vehicles.

According to the proposal, if there is a parking space near the street lamp, the street lamp should have a built-in electric vehicle charging pile.

Grayling said the proposed measures mean that the UK will have the "most comprehensive support program in the world to achieve zero emissions of vehicles".

He said the award was not only a cleaner and healthier environment, but a British economy suitable for the future, and had the chance to win a large part of the market worth up to 7 trillion and 600 billion pounds in 2050.

Many local authorities in the UK have taken measures to combine street lighting networks with charging piles.

London, Wandsworth, Richmond, Hounslow, Westminster, and K & n & C are tested. Some of them are new streetlights, others are existing ones. But Grayling believes that the country needs a strategy to promote this technology.

However, there have been a series of problems in the experiment: the use of streetlights for electric vehicles will have technical, practical and interoperability problems. Although the conversion of existing street lights to LED can achieve free flow capacity for vehicle battery charging, it is obvious that a dedicated high current circuit is needed to provide the driver with the required fast charging time.

In addition, national policies need to coordinate various platforms that have appeared on the streets. Some local governments are providing free systems, while other governments are working with private sector suppliers. For example, the Kensington and Chelsea Committee signed an agreement with energy company Ovo and German technology company ubitricity to install 50 charging piles on street lamps. These streetlights use ubitricity proprietary SimpleSockets technology, so drivers must use ubitricity cable connectors. (Editor: LED net James)
