South Africa became the first African country to eliminate incandescent light

In the "United Nations Framework Convention on climate change" the Seventeenth Party Conference on climate change, South Africa's energy minister Dipuo Peters announced the production and sales of incandescent lamp will be banned in 5 years. So that South Africa became the first country in Africa to eliminate the inefficient incandescent lighting products. South Africa will be phased out in 2016 and banned incandescent lamps.

According to the International Energy Agency statistics, lighting electricity accounts for nearly 20% of global electricity generation, as well as greenhouse gas emissions by 6%.

For South Africa, however, the numbers will be different, because most of the electricity in South Africa is heavy industry, not home and office.
