South Korea's latest research to effectively enhance the luminous efficiency of LED

With the joint efforts of South Korea's ELectro-Mechanics, the United States Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute University recently published a new research results, can enhance the luminous power 18%, photoelectric conversion efficiency of 22%.

The technology significantly reduces the efficiency reduction problem. It is well known that the LED emission efficiency is higher under the low density current, but it will reduce the luminous efficiency at high density current.

The researchers found that the polarization mismatch can be significantly reduced by introducing a new quantum well. They replaced the GaInN/GaN layer in the active region of LED with GaInN/GaInN, so that the buffer layer of the active region has better polarization matching, thus effectively reducing the electron leakage and reducing the efficiency.

In this year's CES 2009 consumer electronics show can be seen, LED LCD TV backlight has been widely used. If this technology can be applied, will further enhance the LED backlight LCD TV energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption.
