Super fast development of Irish red LED for car and home optical network market

Ireland Firecomms days before a newly created company developed a red LED fast, and find useful in car and home optical network application market. It is understood, Firecomms is a product of spin off from the Research Institute of Ireland -- the largest NMRC, founder of the company's scientists from NMRC, the company's main goal in the field was not emphasized in the field of optical fiber. When all the major manufacturers are busy with the development and production of laser for laser source data communication and 1310nm 850, the NMRC team will look at the visible light, especially for the red (650 nm) VCSEL and the cavity RCLED bell alone automatically. Team developed the production technology at the end of 2001, and received an investment, since then, the company began commercial production. One of the most interesting applications of these devices is the use of POF fiber data communications market, because there is a low loss transmission window in the red band POF. Today's traditional red LED maximum rate at 50Mb/s, and a new generation of RCLED is much faster than the traditional LED, the rate reached 400Mb/s. The new generation of RCLED has a smaller aperture, and the coupling efficiency between the fiber and the fiber is higher, and these LED still have excellent performance in high temperature environment. Firecomms said its RCLED-MOST transceiver will be officially listed in the third quarter of this year, at least the light chain rate budget increased by 5dB. The current MOST LED link budget is typically -23 dB, while the Firecomms RCLED-MOST transceiver is expected to reach -28 to -30 dB. At LED and POF have been widely used in the automotive industry, so far, the global road car assembly probably has more than 20 million nodes based on MOST protocol (LED optical transceiver). Users want to install more electronic devices in the car, such as anti collision camera, DVD player and navigation system. At present, the number of electronic devices such as audio, DVD players and navigation equipment in the car has been in the "index" rising trend. With this in mind, 5 years ago, Daimler Benz (now called DaimlerChrysler) decided to develop a more convenient way to achieve the interconnection of various electronic devices. The traditional way, such as copper wire will increase the weight of the vehicle, cost and complexity. The company then decided that the future solution would be a single data bus (databus) using optical or plastic optical fibers. It will not be affected by electromagnetic interference, because the car can be said to be the world's largest EMI environment, it is particularly important, and POF light weight, strong, easy to install. All the advantages of POF in the automotive market has been a great success. Home market will also be another huge market, but it is not started. 1394 protocol to connect all home electronic devices through POF fiber. Many audio video products, such as CD, DVD, and MINI-DISC players have already used the POF optical output port, in fact, there are more devices using this optical interface. Another area of application is the industrial control industry. Many POF have been used as control bus. Now they want to do ETHERNET OVER POF.
