TI launched I2C compatible with 1.2A high brightness flash LED driver

The day before, TI (TI) announced the launch of a high frequency synchronous boost structure of LED driver based on TPS61050. It can provide a constant current source (constant current sink) to drive a single high brightness white LED. The inductance type fixed frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) control technology, minimizing the input ripple current, to meet the requirements of white LED flash in a variety of applications, including mobile phone, smart phone, PDA and other general lighting applications. This 2 mm x 1.5 mm x 0.625 mm micro device is suitable for a variety of small external components, the overall solution size reduced to less than 25mm2.

TI TPS61050 chip (IC) uses 2MHz switching frequency, allowing the use of small, low profile 2.2 H inductor. The TPS61050 device can be used as a steady current power supply and a standard boost voltage regulator. This additional operating mode is useful for powering other high power devices in the system, such as audio power amplifiers or other components that require a supply voltage higher than the battery voltage.

To achieve maximum flexibility, the LED current of the device or the required output voltage can be programmed via the I2C compatible interface. TPS61050 can also simplify the design by integrating four preset operating modes. In order to simplify the synchronization process between the flash and the camera module, the device also provides a trigger pin to achieve fast LED startup time. When the TPS61050 does not work, it can enter the shutdown mode through the I2C compatible interface, so that the input current down to 0.3 A. During shutdown, the LED pin is in a high impedance state to avoid leakage current through the LED.
