The EU will ban halogen and compact fluorescent lamps before 2020

The draft EU legislation proposed that the halogen and compact fluorescent lamps would be effectively prohibited by 2020 as a light source.

As part of the review of the ecological design law, the minimum efficiency of all light sources is 85 lumens per watt, and the maximum standby power supply is 0.5 watts, which will begin to take effect.

Because the standard halogen tungsten lamp has an efficiency of about 25 lumens / watts, and the compact fluorescent lamp with a ballast can only reach 60 lumens / watts, these two technologies will be eliminated by the new regulations.

Ecological design is often called the "light bulb ban", which is to phase out the low efficiency light sources of the European Union. In recent years, the law has gradually banned incandescent light sources. In September this year, non directional halogen bulbs were phased out, including candles, GLS (A50, A60 incandescent lamp), sphere and golf shape.

The removal of compact fluorescent lamps from the market is highly symbolic, because the compact fluorescent lamps represent environmental lighting in 90s. But despite the continuous penetration of compact fluorescent lamps in commercial applications, household owners have never put them on the heart, and many complain that the color temperature is low and the start time is longer. The presence of mercury is also considered to be a fatal weakness because Mercury is not environmentally friendly.

Although few people will mourn the departure of the energy saving lights, the field entertainment industry has launched a campaign against the elimination of the halogen tungsten lamp. The campaign was launched by the lighting designer association, called Save Stage Lighting (save the stage lighting).

The draft of the new law also proposes to return to the former lighting fixtures using replaceable lamps. According to the current wording, the lamp maker will have to disassemble the light source before September 2020 and change it from the lamps and lanterns. The draft stipulates that "manufacturers and importers should ensure that light sources and separate controls within the scope of this regulation can be easily removed by the end users without permanent mechanical damage."

These suggestions, if passed, have a significant impact on the production of the lights. (Editor: LED network James)
